Advanced And Adapted Shot Boundary Detection (bibtex)
by Miene, Andrea, Dammeyer, André, Hermes, Thorsten and Herzog, Otthein
Abstract:
In this paper, we describe a new approach of shot boundary detection in digital videos which is able to detect not only hard cuts but special effects like wipes, fades and dissolves as well. Our approach is divided into two steps feature extraction and shot boundary detection. First, three different features for the measurement of shot boundaries within the video are extracted. Second, detection of the shot boundaries based on the previously extracted features. The advantage of this methodology is the possi-bility to set adaptive thresholds for the shot boundary detection in consideration of all extracted features of the complete video sequence. The shot boundaries detected by examining the three features independently. A combination of these features will then applied to a complete list of shot boundaries.
